Almost anyone enjoys staying in hotels. Who doesn’t like good care and pampering? Hoteliers are always looking for ways to enhance guest experience. This task starts with the booking process and is certainly not limited to the in-room experience. Yet, a comfortable, well-equipped room is the cornerstone of a pleasant stay.
One of the in-room amenities that made it to a standard feature in most of the hotel rooms is: the Hotel-TV. Digital hotel TVs are a great way to enhance guest connectivity inside the hotel room.
Yet there are two shortcomings of hotel TVs: 1. the sound quality is often not sufficient for a pleasant music experience and 2. TV remotes (and remotes in general) can be notorious carriers of germs. TV remotes score incredibly high on colony-forming units per square inch (CFU).
Remotes can contain huge amounts of germs and contamination*
During to an experiment conducted by Travelmath hotel room TV remotes had between 200.000 and 2.000.000 CFU! To put that in perspective: the hotel room phones had between 140 – 11400 CFU – a considerable difference. An odd finding was that TV remote controls in luxury hotels (4 and 5 star) had considerably more colony-forming units for square inch than TV remotes in 3 star hotels. Sometimes even 5 – 10 times more! Find the results of the experiment here: https://www.travelmath.com/feature/hotel-hygiene-exposed/
A scientific study published in Science Daily also concluded that Remote controls are one of the most contaminated objects in hotel rooms: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2012/06/120617142534.htm
